Back in the early 70's I saw The Who a couple of times at MSG. I have seen them quite a few times since then over the years. They are my all time favorite band. These days, 2024, they have slowed quite a bit. Back then, different story. Daltrey moving around swinging the wired mic in a circular motion before tossing it high and grabbing it as it came back down. Townshend bouncing all over the stage while wind milling his arm while playing. Moon, one of the greatest drummers ever, flailing his arms all over a huge drum set. Then there was the Ox, John Entwistle, just standing there in place playing his bass guitar. He was so Zen. He shut everything out and went to business. I may be bias, but listening to his isolated track, you can see why his name should always be mentioned in conversations about great bass guitarists. He was a brilliant bassist.

As a bass player myself, I can tell you that this playing is so counter intuitive that without the other instruments it is incomprehensible. It is like watching people dance with the music turned off.

I've been a Who fan for a half a century ! I've always been amazed at John's bass playing. I don't think anyone has ever played the bass like him. Sometimes his right hand doesn't even look like he's touching the strings.

There have been and are some great bass players but John will always be the first true, and one and only master!

The lick sounds slightly different from the record. Maybe one note different.

As a bass player myself I can tell you that John is one of the all time greats. I've said it before, he's got more funk than most bassists could carry in a wheelbarrow.

I gotta say, Lake has got a *great* game face while singing considering how close that tiger got to him by the finish. OTOH maybe the tiger was just going to ask Greg for another toke on that joint or whatever drug they used to sedate him for this appearance!

I love this song, I have to be honest the first time I heard it was on an episode of Miami Vice, great series, great music and great decade of movies and TV, shit great decade in general.

by the end of his career, he had done shows so many times, he probably told his tech, "wake me up when the show is over".he certainly was a master of his instrument.
